Today as being a Saturday and a holiday I decided to cook something which will be relished by my little one too , Thinking of my little munch kin the first thought that came in my mind was of a wonderful curry which my friend shared with me after dinner at her home.   Though it is simple I had to work real hard to step into the kitchen and cook it especially for my little one and family, as I got stuck up with some mundane tasks of cleaning the house and doing laundry.

The speciality of this authentic gravy is potatoes when cooked they absorb all the spices and flavours and have a lovely soft texture to them. This warm curry gives wonderful flavours of all spice, Chilli and coriander coming through – as well as a bit of a spicy kick.

This juicy chicken and potato dish served is just perfect to be served on a lazy Saturday either for lunch or dinner the choice is yours.

Here is the whole process of this simple yet tempting dish.


1 kg skinless chicken (Murgi)  cut into 16 pieces

2 Onion (Pyaz/Kanda) chopped finely

1 tbsp Ginger- Garlic Paste

1 Large potato cut into 8 pieces

1/2 cup yogurt (whisked)

2 tbsp oil

Salt to taste

½ tsp turmeric (haldi)

1 ½  tsp red chilli powder ( Lal Mirch)

2 tsp Coriander powder( Dhaniya)

½ Tsp All spice powder( Garam Masala)

Water as per your requirement of gravy

How to cook:

Cut and wash thoroughly and keep chicken( Murg) at a side.

Chop onion and cut potatoes.

Heat oil and fry onion till its light brown

Add chicken and potatoes and mix well and let it cook till the water dries up .

Add ginger – garlic paste, Cook for 5 minutes

Add salt, red chilli ( Lal Mirch), all spice powder ( garam masala), turmeric (haldi) mix well.

Cover and cook on low flame for 10-15 minutes  or till chicken and potatoes are half done.

Now add yogurt and mix well

Cover again for further 5 minutes till chicken and potatoes are almost done.

Add water as per the gravy consistency you need  and let it boil for 5 minutes.

Garnish as per your choice and serve this yummilicious gravy (Rassa) with  Steamed rice or assorted breads the choice is yours.
