Integral Coach Factory of Indian Railways, Chennai has designed a new set of self-propelled trains that will be able to accelerate and decelerate faster than any other currently available locomotive-pulled trains in the Indian Railways, reports say. These will be rolled out in two trains called Train 18 and Train 20 by the month of June.
The Train 18 will have world-class passenger facilities like Wi-Fi and GPS based passenger information system. It will consist of 16 coaches each one of them having plush interiors and diffused LED lighting system. It will also feature sliding automatic doors which are a thing that Railways was missing for quite a long period. The nose of the engines will also be aerodynamic that will improve the aesthetics. It is likely that these trains will replace the Shatabdi Trains all over India soon.
The second train set named Train 20 will be rolled out in the year 2020 and will consist of an Aluminium body instead of the stainless steel body. It will also contain sleeper coaches along with Chair Cars and is expected to replace the currently running Rajdhani Trains soon. These trains will also feature all the world-class facilities that are going to be available on the Train 18.
Both these trains will run at an average speed of 160 Kmph and will be manufactured completely in India under the “Make in India” program of central government in half the price of the imported trains. Hence, the whole replacement will be very budget-friendly and will also give a modern feel to the Indian Railways.
