Jack Daniel’s UK Brand Ambassador Cam Dawson undertook a very special Jack Daniel’s Masterclass for a walk through the Tennessee trail, tasting whiskey from the oldest registered distillery in the USA.

Cam Dawson’s involvement in the drinks industry has spanned across the past decade and has seen him work in a variety of pubs, clubs and cocktail bars around the globe. Born and raised in the heart of Scotland, it wasn’t until Cam first sipped Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 that he realized his passion for Whisk(e)y with or without the ‘e’. It’s always been a little controversial that the Scot with more than a decade of experience in the drinks industry chose to represent the American brand but Cam says that wouldn’t have it any other way.

Cam started off the session touching upon the history and legacy of Jack Daniel’s and the nuanced craft of making the whiskey. He spoke about the origins of American whiskey, the history of Mr. Jack himself and the production of his world famous whiskies. On offer was Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7, Jack Daniel’s Honey & Gentleman Jack.

Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7:  Things done a little differently – and that’s what gives Jack Daniel’s its distinctive character. The whiskey is charcoal mellowed drop by drop, then matured in brand new American oak barrels, giving it a balance of sweet and oaky flavor. The Tennessee Sippin’ Whiskey is ready only when the master tasters say it is. They use their senses, just like Jack Daniel himself did. In fact, more than a century later, the Tennessee Whiskey is still judged the same way. By the way it looks. By the way it smells. And, of course, by the way it tastes.

Gentleman Jack: Just like Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, Gentleman Jack is charcoal mellowed before going into the barrel. Gentleman Jack, however, receives an additional “blessing” when it is charcoal mellowed again after reaching maturity, giving it ultimate smoothness. It has a balanced oak flavor with notes of caramel and vanilla. Gentleman Jack is full-bodied with fruit and spices, and its finish is silky, warm, and pleasant.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey: Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey is crafted with world-renowned Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey and mingled with a proprietary honey liqueur of the distiller’s own making. Mellow taste with subtle hints of honey and molasses that complement Jack Daniel’s distinctive caramel, vanilla notes it is, indeed, a little bit of honey and a whole lot of Jack.
